Students in 8th grade use the technological design process to research bridge design. The students then plan and design their own bridges. The bridges are required to be made of ordinary Popsicle sticks and white glue. Students collaborate and build on each others ideas. The student-designed bridges are expected to be durable and to withstand heavy weights. In addition to teacher evaluations, students evaluate the effectiveness of their own designs and reflect on improvements they will make with future designs.
The STEM Night Competition:
Which bridge will hold the most algebra books? On STEM night the race is on for the best bridge. Bridges are tested to descrution. Each bridge is judged based on how many algebra books it can hold.
